Paul Jaboulet Aine Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert Rouge 2020 750ml

The 2020 Crozes Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert seems to have put on weight since last tasted from barrel, improving with its élevage. Faint herbal notions and a bit of crushed stone accent black cherries on the nose. In the mouth, this wine is full-bodied, ripe and round, with supple tannins and a long, velvety finish. It's evolved into a really solid example of the cuvée, with a slightly baked-fruit character, but it works.

A charismatic Crozes-Hermitage with tons of black-plum fruit, as well as hot-asphalt and cocoa-powder notes. This is remarkably open for its young age, in spite of the ample structure. Has a bold and tightly knit tannin structure, but should be drinkable from release, thanks to the forthright fruit that is very present at the long, moderately dry finish. From biodynamically grown grapes.

The oldest vineyard in Crozes-Hermitage appellation, Domaine de Thalabert has been owned by Paul Jaboulet Aîné since 1834.
The Crozes Hermitage vineyard is the largest of the northern appellations. It extends over 11 communes located in the Drôme, on the left bank of the Rhône. Convinced that the interactions of living organisms are beneficial to the vineyard, favouring, among other things, crop auxiliaries, we have set up the protection of the Clos Gounon ruin, its forest and its meadow. This 7-hectare wildlife reservoir, in the heart of our Thalabert vineyard, is the first LPO biodiversity refuge in the Drôme.
Tasting Notes
Matthew Jukes 18+/20 points : « Yet another beautiful 2020, Thalabert is deep, dark and brooding in this vintage, and it has an almost Italianate liquorice and black-fruited theme underpinning its Syrah characters. This makes it an indulgent treat, and the palate is more velvety and forward than any young Thalabert I have tasted. In addition, it has the stuffing to age well, too. What more could you ask for?
