A blend of 52% Semillon and 48% Sauvignon Blanc harvested from the 4th to the 16th of September, the 2019 Le Blanc Sec de Suduiraut is ageing for six months 25% in nearly all new French oak barrels, 75% in vats. The alcohol came in at 13.2%. The nose is redolent of uncomplicated poached pears and lemon meringue pie scents with touches of nutmeg and powdered white pepper. The medium-bodied palate has plenty of citrus and spice intensity with a lively line of freshness and a spicy finish.
Winemaker
Our gourmand and fresh Blanc Sec de Suduiraut offers immediate pleasure.
Its bright aromatic expression makes it an ideal wine to be savoured in its youth, earlier than S de Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes.
To produce this wine, we selected a specific plot of Suduiraut vineyard, planted mainly with Semillon vines. Our fine gravel and sandy terroir bring out fruit aromas and a beautiful freshness to the wine.

Vintage conditions
2019 was marked by a rainy late autumn and early winter, very mild temperatures and just one week-long cold spell during this period.
Particular vigilance was required to prevent any damage from mildew after rainfall at the beginning of the growing cycle in April. The weather conditions during flowering, at the beginning of June, were mixed and we observed some coulure in certain plots. From mid-June onwards, temperatures rose sharply and we were faced with two heat waves, at the end of June and the end of July, which the vines fortunately bore well.
On 26th July, a heavy thunderstorm with more than 100 mm of rainfall brought temperatures down and restored some water reserves to the soil. Ripening resumed in August, which was largely dry. The entire vineyard was very healthy.
Harvest took place from 4th to 16th September.
As in every year, we picked the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes simultaneously to produce batches to be fermented together. The potential alcohol content was encouraging and lower than usual. It took three days to harvest these early terroirs.
We resumed on 9th September and we harvested the more clayey terroirs of the northwestern part of our vineyard at the end of the week. Since grape maturity was not uniform, we undertook a selective picking of the most golden bunches and then suspended harvesting until Monday, 16th September, the final day of the harvest.
Tasting note
Blanc Sec de Suduiraut 2019 is shiny, light yellow in colour, with hints of green. The nose is expressive and well-developed. It opens with floral, white fruits and lemon notes.
After airing, delicate notes of red fruits appear. Semillon main grape variety in the blend gives a rounded and powerfull palate with a creamy texture. Pear, peach and varietal aromas from Sauvignon Blanc grape variety are also present. A great lenght on the mouth leading to a mineral and citrus zesty finish characteristic of our terroir.
It gives a fruity, fresh and generous wine.
