Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron Pauillac 2006 750ml

The 2006 vintage of Château Pichon Baron is a stunning example of the estate's iconic style—structured, fresh, and full of depth. This wine greets the senses with a complex bouquet of red fruit, including redcurrants and blackcurrants, with an intriguing backdrop of spices, toasted oak, and subtle earthy undertones.
Now showing beautifully with decanting, or cellar this wine through 2032. A great opportunity for collectors seeking an age-worthy Pauillac that offers superb complexity and freshness.

A rather solar expression suffuses the complex nose mingling notes of prunes, spices, and forest floor. This is not the most structured wine of this tasting but it remains a textbook Pichon Baron, as it has the telltale upright style, tension, and freshness, as well as an airborne finish. Superb wine whose complexity and depth sneak up on you.

This shows lovely richness and balance for a 2006, with medium, round tannins that envelop the palate and plenty of currant, chocolate and cedar undertones. It’s long and pretty. Developing nicely. Drink or hold.

Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Chateau Pichon Baron has more red than black fruit on the nose, quite showy with hints of creme de cassis and then later it calms down to reveal classic pencil lead aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip in the mouth. This is quite assertive and grippy, although later vintages have evinced more precision and mineralite on the finish. Still, this is a fine if rather burly Pichon Baron. Tasted January 2016.

71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot. Aged 20 months in oak barrels (80% new).
Garnet hue. Dark fruit, camphor and black olive on the nose. Stony as well. Long and linear in style with a lovely freshness to the palate. Tannins finely etched but present. A touch of sweetness but not overly indulgent. More ‘classic’ than ‘solar’.

Château Pichon Baron 2006 has a wonderful garnet red colour. The nose offers aromas of spices and red fruit, such as redcurrants and blackcurrants. There is woodiness with lightly toasted notes. The attack on the palate is fleshy and precise. Tannins are noticeable and well-structured. The finish is mineral, salty and lively with great freshness on the palate. An archetypal long-lived wine, 2006 can be enjoyed after being decanted for at least two hours.
