Chateau Lagrange St-Julien 2004 750ml

The 2004 Château Lagrange offers a ripe nose of wild strawberry, black cherry, and redcurrant with hints of vanilla. The medium-bodied palate is well-balanced, showcasing ripe Cabernet with a classic Saint Julien profile and a tobacco finish. While harmonious and well-crafted, it remains somewhat conservative in style.

The 2004 is developing a lovely ripe nose of wild strawberry, black cherry, redcurrant and a touch of vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied, very well balanced with good delineation. It has some lovely ripe Cabernet, but maintaining that classic line of Saint Julien. Very harmonious with a delectable tobacco finish. Perhaps a little “conservative” but well crafted. Drink now-2016. Tasted September 2008.

Dark ruby with evolution. Sweet and easy and flattering – one of those wines where it's difficult to discern real quality. The charm is a little superficial. Tough end.

A perfectly balanced Third Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the Grand Vin de Château Lagrange reflects the ultimate harmony of the estate's three grape varieties, with a strong predominance of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and Petit Verdot. Sourced from the estate's oldest vines and aged for 21 months in half-new barrels, it displays the concentration and aging potential of a great wine. Already powerful and vibrant in its youth, its slow and serene evolution gives it a delicacy that is expressed in the precision of its notes.
