Deep garnet in color, the 2009 Pontet-Canet slips sensuously from the glass with opulent scents of creme de cassis, baked plums and Black Forest cake plus suggestions of Chinese five spice, potpourri, oolong tea and menthol. Full-bodied, rich, spicy and oh-so-decadent in the mouth, it has a fantastically velvety frame and seamless freshness, finishing very long.

Stunning aromas of fresh flowers, with blueberries, blackberries and currants that follow through to a full body, with super balance and finesse. The tannins are super polished. Such class here. Best ever from here. From biodynamically grown grapes. Try in 2018.

Sumptuous black-fruits nose, vividly aromatic, as well as minty, stylish, and toasty. Very rich, broad, full-bodied and generous, with very ripe tannins and a lot fo spice. Perhaps slightly lower acidity than usual but has punch and persistence all the same. Approachable, just, but will benefit from more age. Good length with a chewy but not astringent finish.
Closure: Natural Cork
Alcohol: 14.00%
Oak: Oaked
Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot

Fruitcake nose. Quite obvious alcohol. Distinctly chewy and spicy and pretty chewy on the end. I wonder when it will mellow? Seems much more backward than its peers.

Thanks to nature's vast and so under-used resources, we learn to understand not just the terroir and the vine but also diseases and pests. That enables the vine to resist aggressions naturally and with composure, without sudden shocks. It was particularly helpful in the early part of the season, when frequent rainfall brought back memories of the previous two years.
Then along came the sun with the advent of summer, settling in over the region until harvest time and bringing with it all our hopes for the forthcoming vintage.
We continued with our plan to use horse-power, calling for deep reflection and a sincere, long-term vision. We could already see the first results, which exceeded our expectations, for the soil responds very quickly to the respect it is shown. Picking started in ideal conditions on 28 September and continued in constant sunshine and hot weather until 15 October.
Tasting:
A dark crimson colour, the wine has an exceptionally complex nose on which blackcurrant and blackberry aromas combine with graphite notes and a floral touch of violet that brings additional elegance.
The attack is powerful and restrained, while the long and highly refined tannic structure is set off by a refreshing acidity. Amazingly harmonious.
A very fine Pontet-Canet!
