Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 750ml

While Leeuwin is known for its Art Series Chardonnay, the Art Series Cabernet (and by extension the entire Cabernet program) has improved out of sight in the past decade. Here, we see the 2014 Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon as being silky, supple and languid, with fine-grained tannin and a cooling, minty finish. There are ripe summer strawberries intermingled in there too. The intensity here isn't a patch on the intensity of some of the younger vintages, but it is pure feeling and seamlessly flowing nonetheless. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Blackcurrants and dark cherries dominate the nose, alongside anise, clove, cardamom, and bay leaf. The wine is highly lifted and perfumed with lavender and basil flowers on show. Drive, direction and line form the shape and frame of the palate. Dark forest fruits surround cedar, olives, and graphite. There is distinct minerality threaded within, leading to a fine finish, with length and complexity delivered by ripe, silky tannins.
