Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Pauillac 2006 1500ml

The 2006 vintage of Pichon Comtesse de Lalande reveals an elegantly voluminous bouquet of blackberry, cassis, and violet aromas, with subtle hints of boysenberry jam beneath the surface. The palate is medium-bodied, exhibiting fine tannins and a fresh, harmonious profile. It is well-structured with well-judged acidity and a finish that is both composed and tensile. The wine has evolved significantly since its initial release, showing increased depth and complexity. With its rich damson fruit, dark chocolate, and a growing presence of black truffles, this wine possesses enormous aging potential. It will continue to develop beautifully over the coming decades.

Tasted at the property, the 2006 Chateau Pichon-Lalande has a voluminous bouquet with outgoing blackberry, cassis and violets scents, a touch of boysenberry jam tucked just underneath, although it does not quite have the delineation of the Lynch Bages. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This feels very composed in the mouth, quite fresh with well-judged acidity, harmonious and tensile on the finish. This deserves a higher score than I awarded out of barrel and it continues to improve year by year. Tasted April 2016.

Rich and powerful but also restrained, with the characteristic perfume of Pichon Comtesse, this offers enormous potential for pleasure. The silky damson fruit also has a supporting cast of cloves and dark chocolate, with black truffles just starting to appear.

Rather sumptuous nose with spice and liquorice but the finish is a little hot and dry.

« Like the creation of a brand-new blend, music, through its vibrations and the unique way it resonates, has this incredible power of plunging us into our inner silence, into our most intimate emotions.
Each tune chosen forges close ties with wine and history, our history, that of Pichon Comtesse. Where were we? What did we feel? Which path did we take? And what about you? What will you feel? That’s how wine is set to music… » Nicolas Glumineau
