Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron Pauillac 2004 750ml

A classic Pauillac that’s really hitting its stride, the 2004 Pichon Baron brings bold dark fruit, earthy depth, and just the right touch of mint and tobacco. With a Cab-dominant blend aged in 80% new oak, it’s rich and powerful but balanced, showing smooth tannins and a long, fresh finish. A bit muscular and rugged, sure—but that’s part of its charm. Drinking beautifully now, with plenty of character to spare.

A vintage that is tasting great right now, still muscular and a little bit foursquare but with concentrated cassis and blackberry fruits, waves of fresh mint leaf and eucalyptus on the finish. This is juicy and enjoyable. 80% new oak. Jean-Rene Matignon technical director, Eric Boissenot consultant.

Sweet tobacco and plums with just a hint of prunes. Fascinating nose. Full body with velvety tannins, tangy acidity and a fresh finish. Just right now. Savory and delicious.

An undeniable star of the vintage, Pichon-Baron's 2004 boasts an inky/ruby/purple color to the rim as well as a big, sweet nose of melted licorice, chocolate, black currant jam, truffles, and charcoal embers. Soft tannin, full body, and abundant opulence and flesh are atypical for the vintage character, but this wine is loaded. Pure, ripe, and evolved, it should be at its finest between 2009-2022.

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Aged 15 months in oak barrels (80% new).
Deep, bright garnet hue with a touch of brick at the rim. Reserved and stony on the nose, even a touch austere. Muscular and firm on the palate, the tannins almost dominating the fruit. Slightly dry finish. A rugged beauty, providing the fruit holds.

Château Pichon Baron 2004 is a finely-tuned blend in classic proportions, including some particularly good Cabernet Franc this year. It is a wine of great harmony that has kept all its fruit (blackcurrant and Morello cherry) perfectly intact. The sensation on the palate is one of fullness, with a fresh, fleshy, long-lasting finish that places the emphasis on balance : nicelyintegrated wood and mellow, juicy tannins. The finish is dense, sprightly and full of energy.
