Having retreated into its shell, the deep garnet colored 2009 Léoville Poyferré gives up slowly revealing notions of cigar boxes, pencil lead, charcoal, rose hip tea and fragrant earth with a core of preserved plums, crème de cassis, espresso and Indian spices. Full, rich, seductive and voluptuously fruited in the mouth, the palate features firm yet beautifully velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and spicy.

Beautiful blueberries and blackberries with some blackcurrants and flowers on the nose. Some black olives and crushed stones, too. Full-bodied with creamy tannins and lovely depth. The tannins are so integrated and plush, but fine-grained. Persistent finish. A red that gives wonderful pleasure now, but will continue to do so for decades ahead.

Bold, brooding black cherry nose; smoky and cedary. Round, ripe, hedonistic and full-bodied. Very rich, suave and very concentrated. Needs time to lose the hard edges, but will be very good long term.
Alcohol: 14.00%
Grapes: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 29% Merlot 6% Petit Verdot

Very dark purplish crimson. Heady nose with some freshness too. Opulent but not over the top even though it lacks enormous density on the mid palate. Just a slight char.

Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, Château Léoville Poyferré is an emblematic estate in the Saint-Julien appellation. The vineyard extends over 80 hectares of magnificent deep gravel terroirs along the Gironde estuary. The wines are sensual, vibrant and precise, and their ageing potential is matched only by their charm.
A new 1982 ?
The vine is an extraordinary plant with the natural capacity to adapt to weather changes and rising temperatures.
Since 2001, the beautiful Indian summers, along with the absence of rainfall during the equinoxes, have allowed the Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen perfectly. Is this Bordeaux’s answer to global warming ?
Man’s work : careful mastery of the yields and rigorous selection at each step of the vine growing and winemaking processes have made this one of the most attractive vintages of the decade, on the level of the memorable 1982..
Our tasting notes – 2022
The deep garnet color of our 2009 is accented by purplish-vermeil highlights. The color remains limpid and shiny.
Enticing aromas of black fruit, crème de cassis, musk, dark chocolate, and toasty oak carry through a full-bodied, rich, seductive palate. The wine evolves on to an attractive silky texture accompanied by toasty notes.
The 2009 vintage is powerful and beautifully balanced with firm, yet velvety tannins. Spicy notes linger on the long finish, offering a touch of freshness and dazzling harmony.
