Chateau Latour Pauillac 1993 750ml

The 1993 Château Latour is a wine that defied the challenging weather conditions of its vintage, emerging as a remarkably complex and balanced expression of the estate’s terroir. With a nose of cedar, black walnut, cassis, and earth, it offers rich, concentrated fruit and a medium to full body. The wine is marked by a freshness and vibrancy that make it stand out, with no traces of the vegetal or harsh notes often associated with the vintage. The palate reveals layers of prunes, candied fruit, and Havana tobacco, leading to a surprisingly long, silky finish. Although not as concentrated as other Latour vintages, it remains a well-structured and enjoyable wine, aging gracefully through the years.

A terrific wine for the vintage, Latour's 1993 reveals an opaque purple color, a backward, cedar, black walnut, cassis, and earth-scented nose, medium to full body, gorgeously rich, concentrated fruit, moderately high tannin (but no astringency), and a sweet, long, powerful finish. The wine does not possess any of the vegetal, green pepper characteristics of the vintage, nor any hint of hollowness or harshness. This wine may prove to merit an even higher rating. Is this vintage the modern day clone of the 1967 and 1971? Anticipated maturity: 2007-2025. Last tasted 1/97

Château Latour’s Grand Vin is made exclusively from “vieilles vignes”, an average of 60 years-old, in the Enclos. Gravettes, Sarmentier, Pièce de Château... these are the names of some of the finest plots that express the character of the terroir and forge the wine’s identity every year.
The heart of the Enclos is the only terroir that, every year, can produce the depth, elegance and concentration that we expect of the Grand Vin. It is here that the Cabernet Sauvignon (accounting for more than 90% of the blend) can achieve optimal expression in terms of colour, richness and freshness. These wines need time - often a decade- before they begin to be ready for drinking.
In great vintages, the power and energy of Château Latour's wines enables them to continue to develop for several decades with ease. The bouquet and impressions on tasting gradually evolve, becoming increasingly complex, ultimately reaching a peak, after which the tannins soften and then the wine slowly declines. Beyond the pleasure of drinking them, these wines can produce powerful feelings and unforgettable moments.
Château Latour is also known for having the ability to produce fine wines even in difficult years.
1993 Wine style - Satisfactory result despite difficult weather conditions. Complex wine, developing aromas of prunes and candied fruit with a hint of Havana tobacco. On the palate, the wine explodes with freshness and fruit. While not exceptionally concentrated, this wine is well balanced with a full, silky structure and a surprisingly long finish.
