Chateau La Conseillante Pomerol 1994 750ml

As of 2025, Château La Conseillante Pomerol 1994 has likely evolved further. The tannins, once slightly austere, should have softened considerably, allowing its more delicate characteristics - floral notes of violet and peony, along with hints of truffle and red berry fruit - to shine through. The wine's creamy, silky texture should now be more apparent, and the aging potential has likely contributed to deeper complexity. It should be drinking well now, with its balance of freshness and developing truffle aromas, but it may not have the same vibrancy it did in its earlier years. It's a wine that rewards careful attention and pairing with food.

Aromatics merit a higher score in this dark ruby/garnet wine, which has a big, spicy, herbal, cedary nose with hints of pepper, sweet raspberries, and black cherries. The wine is medium-bodied but slightly austere in the finish, no doubt because the tannins in the 1994 never achieved full phenolic maturity. Nevertheless, there is a lot to like in the wine, and with the right food, this wine will probably drink better than my conservative score suggests. Anticipated maturity: Now-2010. Last tasted, 4/02.
