Chateau Haut Brion Pessac-Leognan Premier Cru 2010 750ml

The 2010 Château Haut-Brion is a powerful and complex wine that showcases the best qualities of this exceptional vintage. Deep garnet in color, it presents an exuberant bouquet of crème de cassis, blueberry pie, baked plums, dark chocolate, licorice, and cloves. The palate is full-bodied with earthy and mineral nuances, accompanied by firm, finely grained tannins and fresh acidity that supports the long finish. This wine, which still needs time to fully mature, offers a rich, substantial texture, balanced by crisp acidity. With its immense structure, it is poised to age gracefully for decades, making it a wine for the long term.

This magnificent wine has lost some of the almost frightening intensity it had en primeur (15% alcohol), but it is still far too young to drink, even at 13 years of age. The profuse, youthful aromas of ripe plum, fig and blackberry fruit are accented with smoke and mineral notes. The texture is rich and substantial, with a significant tannic grip, but plenty of crisp acidity helps bring the wine into line. While it still needs a few more years in the bottle before it is ready, this should last for generations.

This is very spicy with dried mushroom aromas with dark fruits and plum undertones. Sweet tobacco as well. This is full-bodied, with lots of tannins that are chewy and firm. This is muscular for HB and flexing it. Try in 2020.

Tasted blind. Deep greyish garnet. Very sweet with strong vanilla aroma and mocha. Youthful and sweet in its dark-red fruits. Distinctively sweet fruited on the palate. Silky tannins are a treat in this vintage. Lovely tannic structure. A little bit sweet and sour on the finish.

Elegant and complex, the red wine of Château Haut-Brion is very mineral and of a rare complexity, it is distinguished by an astonishing length, this aromatic persistence being the privilege of very great origins.
Tasting note
The color of this wine is close to a superb ruby red, with a purplish glow.
The nose reveals itself upon swirling. The aromas follow one another in a superb
blend, starting with a woody side, then come the red fruits
and then, the terroir with flavors of cocoa powder, roasting and Havana.
On the palate, the sweetness of the beginning gives way to the appearance of the tannic structure. Despite a palpable density, the tannins have a grand, endless finish. We find in this wine the depth and smoothness of the 1989,
the thickness of the 2000, the freshness of the 2005 and the smoothness of the 2009.
