Chateau Haut Batailley Pauillac 2019 750ml

The 2019 Haut-Batailley, a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot, offers a fine expression of Pauillac with minty berries, violets, cedar, and a touch of spice. The medium to full-bodied palate is succulent, with lively acids and powdery tannins that provide structure and freshness. Elegant and restrained, this wine will continue to evolve beautifully over time, reaching its peak from 2026 onward. A classic Pauillac with great aging potential.

This is linear and tight with blue fruit and fine tannins. Some graphite and lead pencil, too. Medium to full body with very Pauillac sensibility. Delicate, yet structured. Restrained. Needs time to open. 76% cabernet sauvignon. Try after 2026.

A fine effort from this cru classe located between Lynch-Bages, Forts de Latour and Pichon Lalande, the 2019 Haut-Batailley offers up aromas of minty berries, loamy soil, violets, cedar and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, succulent palate with a pretty core of fruit, lively acids and powdery structuring tannins. This is the second vintage produced by the Cazes family since their acquisition of the Chateau in 2017.

The third vintage under the Cazes ownership, and happy to see that they maintain a style that is distinct from Lynch Bages, one than emphasizes the elegance that Cabernet Sauvignon can give over the power and concentration of Bages. This has a touch of rusticity on the tannins, with an unfussy elegance, some delicious juicy cassis fruits and a ton of Pauillac character.

Tasted blind. Deep crimson. Ripe and slightly damp and furry on the nose. Solid and concentrated, but no lift for the moment. Very embryonic, but it should blossom eventually. Inky, sour finish.

Château Haut-Batailley is a harmonious, elegant wine with a fine tannic structure and will develop even more complexity and depth over time.
The vineyard extends over 41 hectares on soils of deep Garonne gravel.
22 hectares are currently in production. In 2017, when the Cazes family took over, 19 hectares of land with planting rights within AOC Pauillac had not been planted (they were never reinstated after Phylloxera).
One year later, following an in-depth study of the terroirs, an extensive planting programme was carried out. The vineyard's total surface has doubled in only three years, from 22 to 41 hectares.
The vines are located on the southern part of the Pauillac appellation, bordering Saint-Julien.
Particularly representative of the Pauillac appellation, grapes are currently Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
Enhancing biodiversity and agroforestry is at the core of our contribution to nature. In 2022, 14 different varieties of over 910 trees and shrubs were planted in the heart of the vineyard.
