Chateau De Fieuzal Pessac-Leognan 2012 750ml

The 2012 Château Fieuzal presents a wine with a rich, balanced profile, offering aromas of blackcurrant, spices, and subtle oak. It has a dense attack followed by finesse and freshness on the finish. While the wine is already showing well, it still holds potential for aging, with a drinking window from 2020 to 2030. Best enjoyed in the coming years as it continues to develop complexity.

Elegant floral notes with a citric edge. Lean and intense, with a fine attack and considerable poise. The fruit is subdued but it has an appealing raciness and tension; a harmonious wine with style and persistence.

A fine and fresh wine with bright fruit and flowers, a medium body and an earthy, spicy finish. Minerally and crisp. Slightly lacks a mid-palate. Drink or hold.

Loads of ripe fruit are present in this wine, but I was surprised by what appeared to be a lack of complexity and nuance. It is certainly chunky, has a dense ruby/purple color and the concentration is adequate. The wine showed blue, red and black fruits, spice, and earth, but is not showing the nuances and complexity I would have expected. Drink it over the next 15 years.

Tasted blind. Evolved rim. Sweet start and then some appetising lift. Not a knockout but very respectable. Tannins well-managed.

Fieuzal creates wines that are memories of the past that can be kept and enjoyed at any moment. After 30 years of winemaking experience, our winemaker Stephen Carrier believes that there is no ‘right’ time to drink a wine, but that instead a truly great wine is great throughout the whole of its lifetime.
From the moment a new vine is planted to the many decades after a wine is put into bottle – every moment in between is just part of an exciting journey that keeps wines and the art of winemaking alive.
Weather conditions during 2012 were excellent from May to August, but this was followed by a tricky period from mid-September onwards. The whites are rich and aromatic, and the reds are, in a word, remarkable: balanced, opulent and with perfect levels of acidity.
70% Cabernet Sauvignon 20% Merlot 5% Cabernet Franc 5% Petit Verdot
Notes of berries, spices and touches of oak emerge from this blend. Blackcurrant aromas come through with hints of pepper and vanilla. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot grapes express their full power here. After a dense, rich attack, the wine reveals its finesse and delicacy, with real freshness on the finish.
