Chateau Beychevelle St-Julien 1994 750ml

1994 Château Beychevelle is a light to medium-bodied Saint-Julien with a classic redcurrant-driven profile. It opens with an elegant bouquet of red fruit, liquorice, vanilla, and toasted oak. Though somewhat modest in weight, it offers sweet fruit, firm tannins, and low acidity. While not the estate’s most profound vintage, it’s a graceful and drinkable wine that reflects the finesse of its terroir. Best enjoyed now or in the near term.

Beychevelle, owners of one of the great terroirs of the northern Medoc, continues to produce wines that are frustratingly irregular in quality. This light to medium-weight wine exhibits a dark ruby color, and a straightforward, redcurrant-scented nose with toast and earth in the background. Low acidity, high tannin, and sweet fruit result in a good, but uninspiring impression. The 1994 Beychevelle should drink well for a decade.
