Barr-Eden Estate Dreams of Gold Shiraz 2022 750ml

The most compelling release to date, this Eden Valley Shiraz is richly concentrated and beautifully textured. Handpicked from vines planted in 1997 and 2013, it bursts with aromas of black cherry, mulberry, star anise, and eucalyptus, layered over a core of juicy red fruit and framed by firm, chewy tannins. Aged with precision and care, this is a seductive, balanced, and deeply expressive wine—elegant yet powerful, with impressive ageing potential through 2038. Only 8,400 bottles produced.

The 2022 Dreams of Gold Shiraz is concentrated, dripping, juicy and saturated. It has a rocky splay of tannin in the mouth that coats the fruit and makes for (pleasurably) chewy drinking. I like this. A lot. There is star anise/fennel on the nose, backed by black cherries, rose petals, resin, singed eucalyptus, fresh mulberries off the tree in summer and a plume of asphalt tannin. It's all about the tannin, really, and the fruit. This is a sensational wine, the best made to date. 14.2% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Handpicked early morning, the 23rd of March, Dreams of Gold comes from vines planted in 1997 and 2013. The wine has been made in a 4 tonne fermenter and stayed on skin for 18 days before being pressed in a small basket press.
Winemaker Notes: The latest addition to the Estate comes from the youngest blocks of the property planted in 2013 and is complemented with the 1997 shiraz. Handpicked for the first time in 2020, Dreams of Gold is a bright purple, vivid colour. It exhibits vibrant red fruits with minty eucalypt and winter greens on the nose. These aromatics pass through on the palate and complement the soft supple tannins. This is a perfect example of Eden Valley Shiraz, seductive and elegant with great balance and length. It's surprisingly very approachable and the bottle doesn't last long around the table. 8,400 bottles made.
