Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron Pauillac 2002 750ml

An under-the-radar gem that’s shining beautifully with age, the 2002 vintage from Château Pichon Baron delivers classic Left Bank finesse. Now over two decades in bottle, it balances structure and elegance with aromas of pencil lead, cassis, cedarwood, and a gentle menthol lift. On the palate, you'll find ripe black fruit, mellow tannins, and a graceful freshness that makes this a rewarding experience today.
Crafted from 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, and aged in 70% new oak, this wine carries the hallmarks of the estate’s pedigree with a more subtle, mature expression—perfect for collectors or enthusiasts of refined, aged Bordeaux.

Perhaps not the most lauded vintage, but after nearly 14 years this 2002 is showing well. It majors on the austere face of Cabernet fruit, with classic pencil lead and tight cassis, but has an elegance and a menthol edge that's really appealing. If you have been holding off, now is the time to uncork this vintage. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot.

This is an elegant, deep ruby-colored wine with notes of sweet cassis, cedar wood, and tobacco with a hint of chocolate in the background. It is a layered, moderately weighty wine with pretty, even understated fruit flavors, excellent concentration, and a long finish with relatively ripe tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2016.

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot. Aged 15 months in oak barrels (70% new).
Brick colour. Evolved aromatically with leaf and bracken on the nose. A juicy freshness to the palate but feather-light weight and feel. Tannins slightly coarse and drying on the finish. Just about run its course.

Château Pichon Baron 2002 boasts a dark, deep, dense garnet red colour. A fine, subtle nose of very ripe black fruit, spices and toast. Full-bodied on the palate with textured, mellowed tannins. Extremely munchy with a fine, elegant, fruity and aristocratic taste. The finish is fresh and very long-lasting, nicely balanced and velvety. It is ageing very well, revealing cigar box, Havana, mild spice and pencil lead aromas. This is a great vintage for cellaring and which still has all its fiery character.
