This is rich and concentrated with loads of fruit and ripe tannins. Full body and a long, long finish. Beautiful intensity. Better in 2017 but so juicy and drinkable now. Nice and balanced for the vintage.

This well-known St.-Emilion estate has turned out a dense purple-colored blend of 84% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Super-concentrated, but not over-extracted, with an essence of blackberry, blueberry and black raspberry fruit interwoven with dusty, chalky minerality as well as a floral note, this full-bodied, rich, moderately tannic, pure, layered, impressive 2011 will benefit from 4-5 years of cellaring. It can be enjoyed over the following two decades.

This terroir of strong clay on limestone rock gives the wine power, fleshiness, minerality, freshness and generosity.
Pavie Macquin's Merlot-dominated grape variety is well-suited to strong clay soils. The molasse soils combined with starfish-bearing limestone give the wines power, tension, and depth. The ancient colluvial soils, with their silt content, add a touch of lightness, while still retaining the mineral tension provided by the limestone.
Cabernet Franc will find its rightful place on limestone soils where the rock outcrops, because warming is faster there and it is there that the grape variety excels in bringing its "backbone" and complexity to the blend.
2% of old Cabernet Sauvignons crown the whole.
The Oaks of Macquin, generosity and typicality
The Oaks, because of those planted on the edge of the plateau like acroteria and emblematic signs of the vintage... In the search for excellence, selection is essential; at Pavie Macquin, the management of the vineyard and the harvest in small steps, at the perfect maturity of each vine, continues with the aging of several batches.
From this mosaic of wines, vinified and aged separately, two wines are created.
The first Château Pavie Macquin , and the second Les Chênes de Macquin.
Each vintage expresses all the generosity and character of the place.
