Chateau Moulin Riche by Leoville Poyferre St-Julien 2018 750ml

A vibrant and charming Saint-Julien, the 2018 Moulin Riche blends 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, and 12% Petit Verdot into a wine bursting with dark berry energy. Lively notes of blackcurrant, plum preserves, and wild herbs meet a satin-textured palate, framed by grainy tannins and a juicy, medium to full-bodied profile. Designed more for early pleasure than long-term cellaring, it shows off the freshness and approachability of its distinct terroir, just west of Léoville Poyferré.

A tangy and fresh red with dark berries, such as blueberries and raspberries. Medium-bodied, firm and bright with lively tannins that give this lift and energy.

A blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Moulin Riche has a deep garnet-purple color and vivacious notes of blackcurrant pastilles, blackberry pie and plum preserves, plus suggestions of wild sage, graphite and unsmoked cigars. The medium to full-bodied palate bursts with lively black fruit flavors, supported by grainy tannins and hints of freshness, finishing with an herbal skip in its step.

Tasted blind. Deep, lustrous crimson. Not much nose. Correct, satin-textured palate. Good-quality fruit, well selected for fairly early drinking. Luscious and almost sweet.

Further west, in the Saint-Julien area, Château Moulin Riche is made from a single block of 20 hectares. It is this terroir, unique and different from that of Léoville Poyferré, which inspired its revival, guided by the intuition of Didier Cuvelier. The wines express the generosity and freshness of the Saint-Julien terroir.
