Chateau Margaux 1979 750ml

The 1979 Chateau Margaux is a graceful, fully mature wine, showing its elegance with dark ruby hues and a refined nose of black currant, minerals, and floral notes. Medium-bodied with sweet fruit and a harmonious personality, it’s a classic example of Margaux’s charm. While not a blockbuster, it continues to evolve beautifully with age. Now at its peak, this wine is ready to enjoy and won’t improve much further, so it’s best enjoyed sooner rather than later.

This wine is just now reaching full maturity, much later than I initially expected. It is a classy, elegant example of Margauxpossessing a dark ruby/purple color, and a moderately intense nose of sweet black currant fruit intermixed with minerals, vanillin, and floral scents. The wine is medium-bodied, with beautifully sweet fruit. This linear, more compressed style of Margaux possesses a good inner-core of sweet fruit, and a charming, harmonious personality. Although not a blockbuster, it is aging effortlessly, and appears to take on more character with each passing year.

1979 Vintage
A very fine vintage whose style has often been compared with the 1978; it seemed to us that when one of them opened up, the other started to close again, and vice versa... But the tannins have always been more tender and soft than the 1978. It will not likely improve with time and so, we suggest to start drinking it now or not holding it for much longer. (October 2018)
