Chateau Leoville Barton St-Julien 2010 750ml

The 2010 Château Léoville Barton, a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, is a deep garnet wine with complex aromas of blackberries, violets, and subtle wood spice. On the palate, it offers velvety tannins and a delightful balance of sweet fruit, vanilla, and nuts. Though youthful, it has the potential to develop beautifully with time. Expect it to evolve gracefully, becoming more vibrant and complex over the next few years. The wine finishes with a lively, chalky texture and fresh fruit notes.

Aromas of pure blackberries and violets follow through to a full body, with super velvety tannins and a delicious balance of sweet fruit, light vanilla and nuts. Really savory and beautiful. Superb wine. I like this better than 2009. Try in 2018.

Darkly perfumed nose: blackcurrants and bramble fruits with subtle wood spice and cinnamon. Juicy, forward and very vibrant. Acidity to the fore, with powdery tannins and fresh strawberry, creamy raspberry and red cherry fruit. Chalky, grippy and lively; still feels youthful. Nice balance of tension and joy. Very good.

The 2010 Leoville Barton is deep garnet in color, and the nose is a little tired, with notes of stewed plums and dried cherries over hints of balsamic, tobacco, spice box and fried herbs. The medium to full-bodied palate has a solid backbone of firm, chewy tannins and plenty of freshness supporting the mature fruit, finishing spicy.

Tasted blind. Second bottle: deep garnet. Scented with plenty of black fruit. Tight, dry, the tannins pinching the fruit at the end. Tough finish.

TASTING
This vintage, still in its youth, evokes a warm, scented atmosphere reminiscent of linden blossom and hyacinths. it'sjust like biting into a fresh grape. This is a robust wine with deep, long flavours. There is nothing aggressive here, the silky, elegant, ever accessible tannins roll like marbles around the palate.
