The 2019 Château Haut-Brion is an extraordinary wine, with a blend of 48.7% Merlot, 43.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 8.1% Cabernet Franc. Its intense nose combines blackberries, plums, pencil shavings, and a touch of smoke. The palate is full-bodied with rich, complex fruit and powdery tannins, seamlessly integrated despite its high alcohol content. It has a luxurious, cashmere-like texture that lingers for minutes. Rated 100 points by James Suckling, this wine is powerful yet elegant, with a long finish that promises great aging potential. Though captivating now, it will evolve beautifully over time, making it perfect for the cellar.

The black cassis comes out of the glass, together with iodine, sandalwood and subtle moss and wet-bark undertones, then turning to violets. Wafting from the glass with aromas of blackberries and plums mingled with notions of pencil shavings, burning embers and creamy new oak, the 2019 Haut-Brion is full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a textural attack that segues into an ample and enveloping core of fruit, concluding with a long, expansive finish. Broad-shouldered and muscular, its rich, powdery tannins are already seamlessly integrated; and though it'slabeled at 15% alcohol, far higher than the great vintages of yesteryear, it avoids any sense of over-ripeness.

With the distinct notes of herbs combined with blackberry, dark plum and cherry on the palate, this is a typical Haut-Brion with huge mass and ageing potential. Lovely freshness of acidity acts as a balance to the wines power and concentration, with fruit tannins and new oak providing the structure for the long-haul. Just a little introverted at the moment, this is likely to blossom after several years in the cellar.

Tasted blind. Mild, saline nose. Full-blown and with masses of appeal and alcohol. Hedonistic in the extreme. Already quite accessible. Exotic and difficult to spit! Long, rich but not heavy or sickly.

Elegant and complex, Château Haut-Brion red presents mineral aromas and a unique complexity. Its strength lays in the finish, which is surprisingly long. This aromatic persistence is due to its very noble origins.
Tasting notes
Superb deep purple-red color. The initial nose is both intense and subtle.
The fruit is ripe, and swirling reveals the aromatic complexity of this wine. The wine has an incredibly smooth and delicate attack. Then, it unfolds, filling the mouth without ever "showing its muscles." The tannins are tight without being harsh, subtle, and captivating. The finish is long and perfumed. Once again, Haut-Brion astonishes with its ability to enhance the complementarity of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
