Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 1500ml

The 2020 Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico is a vibrant, fresh wine made from 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo and Colorino. It's a great example of an "annata" wine, meaning it's crafted to be approachable and enjoyable early. On the nose, you'll find brambleberries, raspberries, tomato leaves, lemon peel, and a hint of bark, along with some tar and crushed stones. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine, slightly stemmy tannins, and there's a beautiful rose-petal character. The finish is fresh, mineral, and clean, with a hint of floral delicacy.

Brambleberries, raspberries, tomato leaves, lemon peel and bark on the nose. Some tar and crushed stones, too. Medium-bodied with fine, slightly stemmy tannins. Rose-petal character comes through. Fresh and mineral at the end. Better after 2023.

This is the entry-level red, or the so-called annata wine. The Castello di Monsanto 2020 Chianti Classico is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo and Colorino aged in large oak casks for 15 months. Production is big with 55,000 bottles made. The wine is exceedingly simple and fresh, and it nails these objectives even in a hot vintage such as 2020. It shows medium-dark concentration and plenty of dark fruit and cherry.
